Sleep and Music-

Sleep And Music-One of music’s many benefits, is the relaxing state it creates that allows us to fall asleep more readily. There are several different types of music that help us achieve this. One kind actually alters our brainwaves to the slower waves of Theta and Delta that is deep sleep.  The other is music that evokes memories and moods that ease our restless spirit and calm our anxieties. Here are examples of some of the most popular CD’s for mood and relaxation.

1. Brain Wave music by BrainSync- uses sound waves that ease your brain out of the rapid rhythms of Beta, down through the relaxing states of Alpha and Theta, into the depths of Delta. Delta frequencies, associated with deep restorative sleep.

 2. Theta Meditation- It is widely accepted that meditation can result in reduced stress, greater health and a sense of calmness and balance. Studies show that in states of meditation we produce a greater quantity of slow frequency THETA brainwaves. Pulses of sound embedded in this musical soundtrack activate your own THETA brainwaves and lead you easily into restful and rejuvenating meditation.

3. New Age music- including the artists, Enya, Loreena McKennit and Clannad, is often used in our quest to fall asleep. Lush harmonies, haunting lyrics and calming melodies can sooth even our most stressful moods.

4. Ambient music – composed of mostly background sounds of nature.  Soft falling rain, the sound of the surf, the night wind.  Then there is Brian Eno’s  Music for Airports from a few simple notes and the serial organization of variable tape loops that didn’t quite match up. It’s a groundbreaking elaboration on the aural/spatial dimension that utilizes silence, piano, synthesizer, female voices, and, most importantly, the technology of the studio.

5. Speed Sleep Programming- In Neuro Linguistic Programming, Frank Prince is the master practicioner. He is also a member of National Sleep Foundation. He’s the counselor and adviser of business leaders, students and professional athletes wanting to improve their sleeping habits. His recording “Speedsleep” is a collection of all his work.
