‘Row, row, row your boat, gently down the stream…’

Some people connect over cookies, some bond over baseball and others click over cars, but….trauma?  Blood, guts and gunshots, the E.R. is a unique world all unto itself.  Life, with babies being born, Death with accidents and heart attacks and basically, everything in between!!!

That’s how I met Kathy.  Excellent nurse, cool, calm and collected, I’ve never seen the woman break a sweat over anything the ER department and now the Intensive Care Unit, could throw at her.  Literally. She handles demanding, rude doctors with the same professionalism and ease as she does the frightened and demanding patient.  Trust me, if you end up in critical care, it’s Kathy’s face you want to look up and see taking care of you.

She has a huge heart of gold, a heart which not only takes care of her patients, but the horses, dogs and critters on her land as well as the assorted, eclectic group of people who are lucky enough to call her friend.

Or in Kathy’s own words-”Wondering about the enormity of it all. A FABULOUS night: cool, dry, a gazillion stars hanging over the barn, and underneath the roof; anxiety and suffering. I went from intubating a guy in DT’s to hospicing an old horse who rules the barn. Everyone is on edge, though now that Moms’ home…drugs and TLC….life is better for a while.”

With such a full, busy and exhausting life, imagine my surprise when I read that Kathy had entered and won our “A Funny Thing Happened to Me on My Way to Sleep!–Insomnia contest“:

THINK NOT BEING ABLE TO SLEEP IS FUNNY? WE AT SLEEPCOMPASS DO!!!
Tell us the funniest, silliest, most humorous thing you have done when you could not sleep.

And here is Kathy’s entry-  ‘Many years ago, neither my ex nor I could sleep. ( too many swing shifts) for some reason we started singing, we laid in bed with the lights off and sang EVERY song we could think of. We exhausted ourselves after 3 hrs, got to sleep for about 2 hrs before having to get up and go to work. ( now tired and not singing anymore!)’

Kathy singing under the stars is sweet.  Kathy singing ‘It’s a Small World After All’, from Disney World, ‘Shake your Booty’ from K. C. and The Sunshine Band and  ‘Riding The Crazy Train’ from Ozzy Osbourn- is a scream!

Congratulations for winning the contest, Kathy, let us know how the Night Wave has saved your sanity and singing voice!

“Merrily, merrily, merrily, Life is but a Dream…’
