Sleeping on a Cloud-

Sleeping on a CLoud
Prana Mattress

Sometimes in our quest for a good night’s sleep, we overlook the obvious. Like the condition of our mattress. Just like Goldilocks, you have to find the one that’s ‘just right.’ I’ve had patients complain about the -’too firm/too soft’-condition of the mattresses in the sleep lab and then have others ask where we bought them, they slept so well! Remember, getting a comfortable and supportive mattress is an investment in your health. We take sleep so much for granted, we forget that this is THE place where we spend the majority of our time.

For thousands of years, it was common place to sleep on pallets, usually made of straw or cushions, thrown on the floor. Raising the early mattresses onto a platform, was a big step up as it help to discourage ‘critters’ ( yes, mice and rats) from sharing the space. The saying ’sleep tight’ came from the 16th century when mattresses were place on top of ropes, that needed to be periodically tightened. The first waterbed was designed by Neil Arnott for the treatment and prevention of pressure sores at St. Bartholomew’s Hospital.

By far my favorite mattress, is the Prana mattress from City Mattress. It is covered by ‘Outlast’ a material invented by Nasa to be used in space suits. The technology helps to keep astronauts comfortable despite the extreme changes of temperature in space. I’ve had several friends who had crippeling back pain that was totally alleviated after sleeping on this bed. What ever mattress you buy, remember this is a major purchase and necessary for restful sleep. Go to the showroom and try different samples both by yourself and with your bed partner. (I’m not sure if they allow dogs!) Lie there for at least 15 minutes, any reputable store expects and encourages this.

We think nothing of spending our hard earned money on a vacation that comes only once a year, compared to paying for a good mattress should last at least 10-to 15. Put the price of your mattress purchase in this perspective.

Treat yourself as you take care of yourself and have a great night’s sleep-

Prana is the life energy that flows through the spine, branching into the nervous system and recharging us from head to toe, sole to soul.

“The positioning of the spine during sleep is critical to the free flow of prana. PranaSleep Sets are designed to create pure comfort and offer cradling, conforming support. By keeping the spine in its natural position, PranaSleep Sets allow for the free flow of life’s energy and provide a deep, restorative night’s sleep.”
