ALL TIME IS WASTED!

Always in a hurry?  Not enough hours in a day?  Can’t get everything done due to lack of time? And missing sleep because of this?

I suggest there is plenty of time – plenty of time for everything, and that All Time is Wasted!

Most traditional Sleep clinics advocate that sleep is not wasting time.  Yet many feel that it is.  It is my experience that what you do with your time is what matters!

I treated people with sleep deprivation & sleep disorders, as well as  promoted  healthy (or at least adequate) sleep, for 20 years while practicing Sleep Medicine. It became clear that most people were not following the advice to get more and better sleep!! There were many reasons, comments, ideas, suggestions, excuses, rationalizations, none of which were valid (at least for more than a few nights)!
Then I noticed that there were a few well balanced, calm, aware, and happy people that slept less than the recommended 7-8 hours per night. Although there are genetically determined sleep needs (ie natural short sleepers), these people chose to do things differently when not sleeping. This included activities such as prayer, meditation, contemplation, and other activities that reduce thinking and doing, whether with music, books, guided tapes, or with nothing.
This suggest to me that what one does instead of sleeping contributes in a major way to how one feels, acts, behaves and performs during the day, as well as what one experiences as their sleep
need! Those that try to do, think, solve, analyze, cram more work-school, chores, and such, are impaired, never seem to complete their work, and are cranky; those that think and do little or nothing at all, accomplish abundantly, feel well, are happy, and are great people to be around!

So, it must be that thinking and doing are the problems!!??  The more active, and the more thinking one does, the more rushed one is.  Hence, the perception that there is never enough time to do anything, including sleep!  Conversely, the “stiller and quieter” one becomes, the more time slows, and eventually stops. And happiness, joy, and freedom arise, and life becomes effortless. Hence, All Time is Wasted!!!
